‘Veppam’ directed by the debutant Anjana Ali Khan a protégé of Gautham Vasudev Menon hits the theaters today. As it has been produced by Gautham Vasudev Menon for Photon Kathas and the expectations about the movie is high among the audiences. Let’s look in to the story of ‘Veppam’.

Two brothers Balaji (Muthukumar) and Karthik (Nani) from Chennai slums are left alone after their mother’s death. Their father Jothi (Shimmore) is a drunkard leaves both of them and gone out of the home. Karthik spends most of the time with his friend Vishnu (Karthik Kumar) who is also brought up in the same area. Both are good friends together. Revathy (Nithya Menon) falls in love with Karthik. Meanwhile Jothi ends up becoming a pimp in the area and starts to work for drug dealer Ammaji (Jennifer). Jothi comes to know that Karthik is in love with Viji (Bindhu Madhavi) a call girl in their business, So he decides to exploit him. He makes a plan and send him to Pondicherry. Karthik also joins him. Knowing the tricky plan of Jothi, Vishnu returns to Chennai. He then killed at the same night and that crime falls on Karthik.

The remaining story revolves how Vishnu was killed? What was the real fact that happened during that night and who was the real culprits? And how Karthik rescue himself from this crime and whether the lovers got united??

Nani looks handsome and he performed well throughout the movie. He is much talented and has the potential to strike it future good projects. Karthik Kumar has done his role to the best. He is well suited for the character. Bindhu Madhavi has a limited scope while Nithya Menon has done justice to the role as a sex worker. Muthu Kumar gives controlled emotion and Goutham Menon’s dubbing for him is an added valve in the film. Music by Joshua Sridhar is rocking. It is more melodious and relaxing. The director has tried out something to give a story about the lives of slum dwellers is appreciated one but she fails in the execution level which could have been told in a more powerful manner. Still it needs more ‘Veppam’. Watch the movie and experience it…
