During the midweek it looked as though Pineapple Express had finally taken the position of The Dark Knight and would beat The Dark Knight at the box office. On Wednesday at the U.S. box office, The Dark Knight was at the 3rd position. At the number One position was the R-rated comedy Pineapple Express, which grossed $12.1 million from 3,072 theatres on the day of opening.
However, during the weekend, The Dark Knight once again showed its stunning hold in movie halls by regaining its top position at the U.S. domestic box office. It was totally different story at the Asian box office. “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” seems to have been the leading player.
The movie The Dark Knight has become an event. Both, box office experts and critics say it is because of the late Heath Ledger’s unforgettable performance as the scoundrel.
